Oregon grape has been used in the treatment of chronic skin conditions such as acne, psoriasis and eczema.

Potential applications: Diarrhoea, chronic candidiasis, conjunctivitis/blepharitis, gallstones, skin infections, parasites, poor digestion, psoriasis, urinary tract infections, cellular protection, trachoma, chronic cholecystitis and liver disorders. Inflammatory states of the mucus membranes, peptic ulcers, colitis, anorexia and painful menstruation.

Known contraindications: Not recommended for use during pregnancy and lactation. Use should be restricted for two to three week periods.

Interactions: It is suggested that the efficacy of certain drugs i.e. Doxycycline and Tetracycline may be reduced when taken in conjunction with Oregon grape. High doses may interfere with B vitamin metabolism.
